i was at an industry event on friday night. not knowing the dress code (what does one wear to an awards event for geeks and their enterprises?), i went with my standard MO: fairly conservative but a little sexy - just enough for me to be confident but not conspicuous. my dress that friday night was black, cap sleeved and knee length, and flattering without being revealing. i paired it with my new five inch patent-leather knee high boots. i work for a company founded around women's fashion, so i feel both justified and somewhat required to vamp it up a little when attending work events.
the awards show was entertaining. twine.com had (by far!) the best video response, and the fake-steve-jobs-acceptance was great. sadly, we didnt win, but it was still nice to be there. and of course, there was a party afterwards, and who can argue with open bar and a room full of internet geeks? so off i went to mingle - although i kept close to my work people.
while talking to a new friend after the awards, he informed me that mc hammer was present, and invited me along to get a photo. at first dubious, i was convinced by the circle of flashing cameras at the side of the large room, and went along to see. turns out, mc hammer was there, so i wielded the camera for a photo of my new friend with him, and then waited patiently while hammer turned and talked with someone behind him. when he turned back to me, i asked whether he minded a photo with me. he pleasantly rebuffed any concern, and as he put his arm around my waist for the photo, he informed me quite matter of factly that i had nice breasts.
note the aforementioned comment about my dress not being revealing. im a shapely girl, and i was complimented on my dress by several people, but i was hardly 'on display' and was certainly not expecting to hear that. under normal circumstances, i would probably have used my five inch heels to inflict some pain, but this was mc hammer. how can you even get mad? its impossible to do anything but laugh, which i did. for the rest of the night. repeatedly.
i have yet to email the kind gentleman with the camera. but this memory, alone, should last a lifetime.
